What Flock cameras actually do
Flock Safety cameras are designed for one main job: reading license plates as vehicles pass and matching them against databases. When a plate is read, the system records:

Why people confuse them with speed cameras
- Both are cameras mounted on poles and roadsides, so they look similar.
- Both record vehicles automatically with no officer present.
- News coverage often lumps "traffic cameras" together without distinguishing types.
If a jurisdiction pairs ALPR with a separate speed-enforcement system, the speed detection itself still comes from radar/LIDAR — not from the Flock camera. If you see a "photo radar" van or fixed radar unit, that's a different technology entirely.
